Unable to Save: Session Data Missing — How to Fix
What This Error Means
The message "Unable to save: session data missing" appears when TinyTax cannot find an active filing session linked to the current form. The filing session is a short-lived identifier that connects your form to the right company and period — without it, the draft saver cannot store your progress.
Common Causes
| Cause | Why it happens |
|---|---|
| Navigated directly to the form URL | TinyTax sets up the filing session when you start from the dashboard — skipping this step means no session is created |
| PHP session expired mid-form | Leaving the form open for a long time (typically over an hour) can cause the server session to time out |
| Multiple tabs | Opening the same filing in two browser tabs can cause session conflicts |
How to Fix It
- Go to your Dashboard at https://tinytax.co.uk/dashboard
- Find your company and click File (or Continue Filing if the button shows)
- This restarts the filing flow and creates a fresh session
- Fill in your figures and save as normal
If you had not yet saved any figures, you will need to re-enter them — but this is uncommon because the draft saver runs automatically as you type, as long as a valid session is present.
If the Problem Persists
If you return from the dashboard and still see the error:
- Log out of TinyTax and log back in
- Start the filing again from the dashboard
- Avoid opening the filing form in more than one tab at a time
Common Questions
I filled in all my figures — will I lose them?
If the draft auto-saver ran at any point before the error appeared, your figures are saved and will reload when you return from the dashboard. If the session was never established (e.g., you navigated directly to the form URL from a bookmark), you may need to re-enter them.
Can I bookmark the form URL to return to it later?
The form URL works, but always start a new session via the dashboard to ensure everything is linked correctly. Bookmarking the form directly can bypass the session setup step.
