Getting Started with the Dashboard

Learn how to navigate your TinyTax dashboard. Understand status icons, start filings, return to drafts, and use the company details drawer.

Your TinyTax dashboard is your home base for managing all your company filings. This guide shows you how to navigate it effectively.

The Dashboard Grid

When you log in, you'll see a grid showing all your companies and their filing periods:

Company NamePeriod EndAccountsCT600ProfitTaxActions
ABC Ltd31 Mar 2025£50,000£9,500
Each row represents one accounting period for a company. You might see multiple rows for the same company if you have several periods to file or have filed an amendment.

Understanding Status Icons

Each filing shows a status icon:

IconMeaning
✓ (green tick)Filed and accepted
○ (empty circle)Not yet filed
⏳ (clock)Submitted, awaiting response
📄 (document)Draft in progress
✗ (red cross)Error or rejected
Click any status icon to open the details drawer and see more information about that filing.

Why Do I See Two Rows for the Same Company?

You may see two rows for the same company in several situations:

1. Multiple overdue periods If your company has more than one filing period outstanding, each period appears as a separate row. File them in order — oldest first.

2. Extended accounting period (over 12 months) HMRC requires two CT600 returns for accounting periods longer than 12 months. TinyTax splits these automatically, so both appear as separate rows. Both CT600s must be filed.

3. An amendment When you amend a CT600 or accounts, the amendment appears as a separate row alongside the original. Amendment rows show an AMENDMENT #1 (or #2, #3 etc.) badge under the period dates.

4. Custom period dates If you used the "CT600 with custom dates" option to match the dates on your CT603 Notice to Deliver from HMRC, the custom-date session appears as its own row. This is correct — each row tracks a distinct filing session.

Understanding Amendment Rows

Amendment rows are labelled with an AMENDMENT #1 badge (or higher numbers for further amendments). They represent a corrected version of a previously filed return.

Common amendment states:

CT600 columnAccounts columnButtonWhat it means
FiledBoth CT600 and accounts accepted — filing complete
Accounts Processing...CT600 accepted by HMRC; amended accounts submitted to Companies House and awaiting processing
CT600 only amendment — no accounts change required
The orange Accounts Processing... button means your accounts submission is in the queue at Companies House. No action is needed — processing typically takes 1–3 working days for standard accounts, or longer for amendments.

If the CT600 column shows a ✓ green tick on your amendment row, your corporation tax return has been successfully accepted by HMRC. The accounts processing separately on the same row is a normal part of the amendment workflow.

Understanding the CT600 Column

The CT600 column shows the status of your corporation tax return for that period:

IconMeaning
✓ (green tick)CT600 filed and accepted by HMRC
○ (empty circle)CT600 not yet filed
⏳ (clock)CT600 submitted, awaiting HMRC response
✗ (red cross)CT600 rejected — action needed
An empty circle ○ in the CT600 column simply means the CT600 for that period has not been started yet. Check the Next Due column to see when it's required — if it says "CT600 in 11 months", there is no immediate action needed.

Starting a New Filing

To file your CT600 or accounts:

 1. Find the company row in the grid
 2. Click the green button:
 1. A dropdown appears with options:
- CT600 - File your corporation tax return - Accounts - File accounts with Companies House - CT600 Filed Elsewhere - Mark as filed via accountant/other software - View documents - See submitted documents for this period (only shown if documents exist) - View all years - Open the details drawer to see all filing periods

If the button shows in red, your filing is overdue. Don't worry - you can still file, but do so as soon as possible to minimise penalties.

Returning to a Draft

If you've already started a filing but didn't finish:

 1. The button will show:
 1. Click it and select your filing type
 2. You'll return to where you left off with all your data preserved
TinyTax automatically saves your progress. You can close your browser and return later - your data will be waiting.

The Company Details Drawer

Click the arrow (→) at the end of any row to open the details drawer. You can also click anywhere on the row itself.

The drawer slides in from the right and shows:

Company Information

 • Company name and number
 • Registration details
Filing History
 • All periods for this company
 • Status of each filing
 • Submitted documents (iXBRL, XML)
 • Error messages (if any)
Actions
 • Continue or retry filings
 • View submitted documents
 • Archive the company

Filtering and Searching

Use the controls at the top of the dashboard:

 • All - Show everything
 • Overdue - Filings past their deadline
 • Due Soon - Approaching deadlines

Filing Order Requirements

HMRC requires you to file periods in chronological order. If you have multiple overdue periods:

Previous Period Required - You must file the earlier period first, or mark it as filed elsewhere.

The dashboard will guide you to file the oldest period first, or you can mark it as "Filed Elsewhere" if you've already submitted it through another service.

Adding a New Company

Click the button in the top right:

You can add companies by:

 • Company number - We'll fetch details from Companies House
 • Manual entry - For organisations not on Companies House (clubs, associations)

Archiving Companies

If you no longer need to file for a company:

 1. Click the arrow (→) to open the details drawer
 2. Scroll to the bottom
 3. Click Archive Company, then confirm
Archived companies are hidden from your main dashboard but can be restored later.
