Saving Your Work & Returning to Drafts

TinyTax saves automatically - no save button needed. Learn how your data is preserved and how to return to unfinished filings.

TinyTax automatically saves your progress as you work. Here's how saving works and how to return to your draft.

Automatic Saving

Good news: there's no save button because you don't need one.

TinyTax saves your form data automatically:

  • Every time you move to a new field
  • When calculations are performed
  • Before you navigate away
Your work is saved automatically. You can close your browser, shut down your computer, and return days later - your data will be exactly where you left it.

How to Return to Your Draft

Method 1: Dashboard Button

The easiest way to continue:

  1. Go to your Dashboard
  2. Find your company row
  3. The button will show:
  1. Click it and select CT600 or Accounts
  2. You'll return to your draft with all data preserved

Method 2: Company Details Drawer

  1. Click the arrow on your company row
  2. The drawer slides open showing filing history
  3. Find your period and click:

What Gets Saved?

Everything you enter is preserved:

  • Company type selection (Trading, Property, Dormant)
  • Accounting period dates
  • Profit & Loss figures - turnover, expenses, depreciation
  • Balance Sheet figures - assets, liabilities, equity
  • Tax adjustments - disallowable expenses, capital allowances
  • Declaration details - name, position
  • Prior year data - if fetched from Companies House
Even calculated values like your tax liability are saved, so you see the same figures when you return.

Starting Fresh

If you want to discard your draft and start over:

  1. Click Continue Filing ▾ on the dashboard (where your draft is)
  2. From the dropdown, select Delete Draft
  3. Confirm the deletion
  4. Start a new filing from scratch
Deleting a draft is permanent. Make sure you want to discard all entered data before confirming.

Multiple Browser Tabs

Avoid opening the same filing in multiple tabs. If you do:

  • The last tab you work in will overwrite the others
  • You may lose data from other tabs
  • Stick to one tab per filing for best results

Switching Companies

If you click "Start Filing" on a different company while you have a draft:

  • Your existing draft is preserved
  • The new company's form loads
  • Return to your original draft via the dashboard
Each company's draft is saved separately.

Session Timeouts

Your login session lasts for several hours of inactivity. If you're logged out:

  1. Log back in
  2. Go to the dashboard
  3. Click Continue Filing - your data is still there
Being logged out doesn't delete your draft. Your form data is stored securely on our servers.

Submitted vs Draft

Draft: Started but not submitted to HMRC/Companies House

  • Shows 📄 (document icon) on dashboard
  • Can be edited freely
  • Button shows "Continue Filing"
Submitted: Sent to HMRC or Companies House
  • Shows ⏳ (pending) or ✓ (accepted)
  • Cannot be edited (file an amendment instead)
  • No "Continue" button - it's already submitted

Preview Page

When you click View Draft Submission, you're on the preview page:

  • This is still a draft - nothing has been submitted yet
  • You can go back and edit
  • Only clicking Submit to HMRC or Submit Accounts actually sends your filing
The preview page shows exactly what will be submitted. Review it carefully before clicking Submit.

Common Questions

"Where's the save button?"

There isn't one! TinyTax saves automatically as you work.

"I closed my browser - is my data lost?"

No. Return to the dashboard and click "Continue Filing".

"I see 'Start Filing' instead of 'Continue Filing'"

This means either:

  • You don't have a draft for this period
  • Your draft was submitted successfully
  • Check the status icon to see the current state

"Can I save and come back tomorrow?"

Yes! Your draft will be waiting whenever you return.
